JUNAGADH - GUJARAT.


Junagadh is a architectural and historical place in the state of Gujarat. Girnar hill is the main attraction of the small ancient city. Junagadh got it’s name from the “old fort”. Here we will get to see many Hindu temples, Jain temples, Buddhists monuments, Mosques, ancient monuments, beautiful Girnar hill and Gir forest.

Uperkot one can also call “Upper fort”. Here we will get to see 2 cannons, the bigger one is named “Nilam Tope”, which was built in Egypt. Near the gate there is Jama Masjid which was built from a demolished Hindu temple. It has 140 pillars to support it’s ceiling. Other worth seeing is stepwells named Adi Kadi Vav and Navaghan Kuva. About 1500 years old Buddhist caves is also one attraction seeing just near the Mosque.


To visit Girnar hill one must start climbing up the stone steps early in the morning when it is cool and pleasant as there are 10000 steps. On the climb one will get to see teak forest and Damodar kund. The Bhavnath Fair is held in the month of Magha (January / February). From here one will start seeing Jain temples. At the top of the hill there is temple of Ambe Mata where newly weds takes blessings for their happy and life long marriage life.

On the Rajkot road about 3.5 km from the Junagadh city is Sasan Gir National Park, Junagadh’s zoo at Sakar Bagh, The zoo was set up with a view to save the Lions from extinction and here Lion, Tigers and Leopards are the main tourists attractions.

If one is interested in Ayurved can also visit small museum of Ayurvedic medicines at the Ayurvedic College at Sardarbaugh.

Other good places one can also visit near to Junagadh is Veraval, The famous Somnath temple and Diu.
